On September 4th, Bard MBA in Sustainability spoke with Manoj Fenelon, Director of Foresight & Innovation for PepsiCo about The Gospel of Doubt.
In a world teeming with answers, Manoj helps ask good questions that catalyze and channel collective imagination. He has a graduate degree in the study of emotion and has absorbed lessons from experiences across advertising, academia, market research, business strategy, insights and innovation (none of which approach the educational value of starting and running a foresight practice at the world’s 44th biggest company). Manoj is also a First Mover (Intrapreneurship) Fellow at the Aspen Institute, and believes that business – oriented purposefully – can be a net asset to society.

On March 6th we will be discussing corporate sustainability reporting, assurrance and compliance with Kristen Sullivan from Deloitte US.
Recently in an interview in the Wall Street Journal about challenges facing CFO's, conflict minerals and the SEC's Conflict Minerals rule, Sullivan had this to say in response the the question,
WSJ: "What are you telling CFOs where to begin and what are some of the implementation issues they face?"
KS: "In addition to finance, the group should include representatives from legal, procurement, supply chain, sustainability, public policy and investor relations to support the effort from a governance structure. From CFOs’ perspective, such broad representation may provide them confidence that they’ve taken the appropriate measures and are in a position to conclude and report in the filings."

Urmi Basu is a woman of few means, facing staggering need, but her mission is clear. In her work with New Light, a nonprofit organization in Kolkata, India, that works to save girls from becoming victims of sexual exploitation and to improve lives of the children of sex workers. She is dedicated to correcting wrongs, one at a time.
"On a global scale the problem of prostitution is so complex and huge that I would be completely overwhelmed if I think about it." Urmi says. "I choose to reduce the aperture of my vision and concentrate my energy only on things that I can do."
